Workshops are half education and half yoga. We begin with a “mini med school,” which is a power point presentation reviewing the medical literature about the benefits of yoga. We then put that science into action through a yoga practice customized to the needs of particular patients. For example, in my Spine Health Workshop, I present the results of several randomized, controlled trials that confirm the effectiveness of yoga for treating lower back pain. Then, we will practice the sequence used in that particular study, so you know that what you are doing is backed up by science.
It was fascinating to hear about the studies being done that link yoga with better overall health and especially the positive effects it can have on autoimmunity. I am so happy I was able to participate in the workshop.
